Accommodations in California Offer Many Options

April 7th, 2010

Whether you are new to the immigration process or have lived in California for years or decades, California offers you many options when it comes to accommodations. There are bed-and-breakfasts, large hotels, motels, inns, and vacation homes to rent. You can even rent a condo or a suite, if you are looking for a more home-like atmosphere. Accommodations in California range from a modest fee for a hostel to tens of thousands of dollars a night for the most luxurious condo and suite rentals. There is, of course, also a wide range of accommodations in between those two extremes. When renting accommodations in California, keep these things in mind:

1) Browse early. If you want to go to a tourist attraction, especially, book well in advance to ensure availability of the accommodations that you really want. Booking early and confirming your reservation in advance also ensures a hassle-free vacation and sometimes savings. We know you’re busy with work, play, and maybe those USCIS forms, but plan your stay in advance and you’ll likely have a much better time in California. Starting early also ensures that you can browse and compare different accommodations to find one you like. Time means more options, so take advantage of it.

2) If you want to save money, go online. Many accommodations offer web-only savings if you book online. Also, by going online you can compare the prices of different accommodation options in order to find something that suits your needs as well as your budget. If you really want to save money, consider traveling during the off-season – or when other tourists are less likely to travel to California. Off-season includes the winter and the fall. Summer months and spring break months tend to be filled with tourists. You’ll often save considerably by doing this.

3) Compare accommodations based on cost and your needs. Don’t just look at the bottom line when making your California accommodation decisions. Instead, carefully consider your needs. If you are traveling with a large group of people, a vacation home rental or condo rental may make more sense, as it will give you more space. If you need business facilities and amenities because you are traveling on business, large chain hotels tend to have fax services, conference rooms, and other necessary amenities you may need. If you are traveling for an extended stay, look for extended-stay accommodations or vacation home rentals that will cost less than hotel rooms.

4) Prepare for travel in advance. Make sure that you take your documentation, including your green card, with you. Pack lightly but carry everything that you may reasonably need on your vacation to ensure that you do not have to spend money and time looking for an extra toothbrush or an article of clothing.
